I swear by your countenance, which, through its beauty,

Has stolen the very wits of the intelligent, those endowed with reason.

What is the full moon, what the radiant sun, in splendor?

What is Rāmah's gazelle in beauty, and what are the oryxes?

I crave nothing but your drink.

Nor is there any end to the reach of love for you.

Remembrance is only for the one who has grown heedless of you.

And reflection is only for the one distracted from you.

My soul is a ransom for the one it has allowed to slay it.

My soul's love is surely for her alone.

As for me, in remembering you, my whole being is hers.

And all my limbs are eyes turned toward you.

O you ignorant of love's paths, leave it

To those who know it, and defer to its adepts.

One ignorant of it is not like one who has attained it.

How can the dust, O ignorant ones, compare with the star Suhā?
