Be gentle with your lovesick one, O little dweller of the dune.

And be tender and gentle when we meet.

And spare my last breath with a swift union.

Rather, shorten estrangement's span; may you live on.

Indeed, though gray hair has appeared in my locks,

I have an aspiration that soars to lofty heights.

And if gray hair has worn away my freshness,

Still, my resolve cannot bear to grow worn.

    I have a lofty aspiration,

    And Sufi chivalry,

And a creed of firm conviction.

Indeed, though the clouds have ceased, I have not ceased.

Why? The downpour of my bounty still overflows,

Without wealth, but with unwavering certainty,

Trusting and firmly assured of my Lord's bounty.

Indeed, I speak of my Provider's blessing,

Rather, grateful for His bounty and His giving.

And I am utterly poor, beyond all doubt,

And He is the Self-Sufficient; He has encompassed us all with His abundance.

We would be nothing but for His beneficence toward us.

Glory be to Him in His might and eternity.

Encamp in the courtyards of the Generous One and at His gate,

For His gates will never close to those who hope.

Seek refuge with the Generous One, in whom hope rests,

For toward Him turn the utmost hopes,

And He is the One appealed to and the refuge.

For sins have harmed us and darkened

The hearts within us, while the people of piety have triumphed.

    ومع اتباع نبيه أبدا شفا

    We have not feared, once certain of His generosity;

And in following His Prophet there is always healing.

If fear of His justice has not settled within you,

Beware of abandoning hope in His grace.

For these are the two wings of the spiritual path; so strive.

For having some is better than lacking it all.

If you firmly establish hope and its station,

You will not fear prolonged separation and its humiliation.

If a promise holds true, the threat is likewise; so be

A believer in His promise and His threat.

Be a believer in the threat,

And firmly assured of the promises.

The Generous Lord may forgo His threat,

Out of grace; yet He never breaks a firmly pledged promise.

Then blessings upon the Prophet and his family,

Whenever lightning flashes, gleaming with radiance.
