And by your honor, I remain true to the pledge of my companionship.

Nor has estrangement changed the purity of my affection.

In every state, you are the root of my desire,

Even if from you comes my desire—or my death.

    How lovely is your reproach!

And its sweetest part is your torment.

    Have mercy, at your door,

On one who hopes for your reward,

A sick one whose heart is stricken by separation.

So be generous and grant a meeting, O my beloveds.

I cast off my bridle in loving you; sweet to me are

My wasting away, my torment through you, and my self-abasement.

I have sworn by the honor of the Maker, the Creator, the Protector,

That I will not heed my reproachers' words about you.

    Show kindness through your generosity,

And have mercy on your love-stricken one,

    And with your happiness, gladden

The one made wretched by your distance.

May you ever remain, O my masters, before my eye,

And your dwelling is in the innermost core of my soul.

O camel-driver of the caravans, by God, turn aside with them,

And let them sway gently on the journey, and set out with them

To Tayba, whose dune-dwellers have been blessed

By him who surpassed non-Arabs and her Arabs in exalted rank:

Truly the guide to right guidance, truly the master of humankind.

In glory he rose to a height no one else can ascend.

Indeed, mention of him has adorned my poem, O my brother,

So through him I hope for forgiveness of my sin and my lapse.
