شوقي إلى زينب شديد شائق

والقلب إليها لا يزال خافق
My longing for Zaynab is fierce and compelling,
My longing for Zaynab is intense and stirring;
And for her my heart keeps ceaselessly throbbing.
And the heart still throbs for her.
وأدمعيand my tears منfrom مقلتيmy eye دوافقgushing
وأدمعي من مقلتي دوافق
شوقاًout of longing ونوميand my sleep للجفونfrom the eyelids مفارقdeparting
شوقاً ونومي للجفون مفارق
From my eyes my tears come streaming,
And my tears gush from my eye,
Out of longing—and sleep has forsaken my eyelids.
Out of longing, while sleep has forsaken my eyelids.
خدودcheeks زينبZaynab زينتwere adorned بتوريدwith a rosy blush
خدود زينب زينت بتوريد
وجيدand the neck زينبZaynab جيدthe neck ظبيةa female gazelle البيدthe desert wastes
وجيد زينب جيد ظبية البيد
Zaynab’s cheeks are adorned with a rosy bloom,
Zaynab's cheeks are adorned with a rosy blush,
And Zaynab’s neck is the neck of a desert gazelle.
And Zaynab's neck is the neck of a desert gazelle.
نفسيmy soul فداa ransom for زينبZaynab وذلكand that الجيدthe neck
نفسي فدا زينب وذلك الجيد
لقدindeed حوتhas possessed زينبZaynab لحسنbeauty فائقsurpassing
لقد حوت زينب لحسن فائق
My soul be ransom for Zaynab and for that neck;
May my soul be a ransom for Zaynab and that neck;
Zaynab has indeed gathered surpassing beauty within her.
Indeed, Zaynab possesses surpassing beauty.
زينبZaynab منيof me قلبيmy heart وكلand all قصديmy aim
زينب مني قلبي وكل قصدي
زينبZaynab لهاshe has أرفعhighest محلّplace عنديwith me
زينب لها أرفع محلّ عندي
Zaynab is my heart and all my purpose;
Zaynab is my very heart and all I seek;
Zaynab holds the highest place with me.
Zaynab holds the highest place in my esteem.
ماwhat حالcondition زينبZaynab ياO نسيمbreeze بعديafter my departure
ما حال زينب يا نسيم بعدي
أماas for أناI مشتاقyearning صبّlovesick وامقdeeply loving
أما أنا مشتاق صبّ وامق
How does Zaynab fare in my absence, O breeze?
How fares Zaynab, O breeze, since my departure?
As for me, I am a yearning, lovesick, ardent lover.
As for me, I am yearning, lovesick, deeply in love.
فانّfor indeed زينبZaynab قرّةdelight النواظرthe eyes
فانّ زينب قرّة النواظر
وانّand indeed زينبZaynab منيةdesire الخواطرthe minds
وانّ زينب منية الخواطر
For Zaynab is the delight of every gaze,
For Zaynab is the delight of the eyes,
And Zaynab is the heart’s cherished desire.
And Zaynab is the desire of minds.
لولاwere it not for صلاحṢalāḥ المكرماتthe noble deeds عامرʿĀmir
لولا صلاح المكرمات عامر
لأطيرI would fly اليهاto her وأقطعand sever العلائقthe ties
لأطير اليها وأقطع العلائق
Were it not for rectitude, where noble virtues thrive,
Were it not for Ṣalāḥ of noble deeds, ʿĀmir,
I would fly to her and sever every bond.
I would fly to her and sever all ties.
