وحرت لم أدر أين أذهب

In him I have followed every path.

I have gone astray in love for you

And I was bewildered, not knowing where to go.

And wandered, not knowing where to go

حيرة فناء بلا ذهول

حيرة فناء بلا ذهول

فما بقي لي سواه مطلب

فما بقي لي سواه مطلب

Bewilderment in self-annihilation, without loss of awareness.

Lost in annihilation without death

So no goal remained for me but him.

For you alone remain my desire

عجبت مني ومن بقائي

عجبت مني ومن بقائي

وفي الهوى كلّ حال أعجب

وفي الهوى كلّ حال أعجب

I marveled at myself and at my continued existence.

I'm amazed at myself and that I still exist

And in love, every state is more wondrous.

In love, every state is more amazing

وخضت بحر الهوى جراءة

وخضت بحر الهوى جراءة

من غير سبح وغير مركب

من غير سبح وغير مركب

And boldly I plunged into the sea of love,

I dared to cross the sea of love

Without swimming or a vessel.

Without raft or boat

والكاس سكران من هوائي

والكاس سكران من هوائي

أسكره عشقي من قبل أشرب

أسكره عشقي من قبل أشرب

And the cup is drunk on my passion.

The wine cup is drunk from my passion

My ardent love intoxicated it before I drank.

My love intoxicated it before it was sipped

فقلت يا كاس أين سكرك

فقلت يا كاس أين سكرك

سكرى بمن قد هويت أغلب

سكرى بمن قد هويت أغلب

So I said: O cup, where is your intoxication?

So I said, "O cup, where is your drunkenness?"

My intoxication with the one I have loved is stronger.

My intoxication is with whom I love most

فلست أحتاج إلى محرّك

فلست أحتاج إلى محرّك

من صدح طير ومن صباهب

من صدح طير ومن صباهب

So I have no need of a stimulus,

So I need no stirrer

From birdsong or a blowing east wind.

Of singing bird or flutes

فلا تصرفني العوامل

فلا تصرفني العوامل

فلست مني ولست معرب

فلست مني ولست معرب

So no governing influences can alter me,

The elements cannot distract me

For I am not my own, nor am I subject to inflection.

I am not mine, and not an Arab

لا تذكروا لي سوى حبيبي

لا تذكروا لي سوى حبيبي

دع عنك هنداً وذكر زينب

دع عنك هنداً وذكر زينب

Mention no one to me but my beloved.

Mention to me only my beloved

Set aside Hind and the mention of Zaynab.

Leave India and Zainab

فذاك سولي وكلّ كلي

فذاك سولي وكلّ كلي

بذكره أرتاح وفيه أطرب

بذكره أرتاح وفيه أطرب

For he is my desire and the whole of my being.

For that is my only concern and all I have

Through remembrance of him I find repose, and in him I am enraptured.

In remembering him I find peace and joy

ناديت روحي إليه روحي

ناديت روحي إليه روحي

واذهبي روح حيث يذهب

واذهبي روح حيث يذهب

I called to my soul: Go to him!

I called to my soul, "To him, O soul!

And go, O soul, wherever he goes.

Go, soul, wherever he goes"

سلوك سرّ بلا مسافة

سلوك سرّ بلا مسافة

من سير خبت وقطع سبسب

من سير خبت وقطع سبسب

A journey of the innermost self, without the distance

A hidden path without distance

Of traversing lowlands and crossing desert plains.

From a journey of yearning and severance

تمت وصلوا على محمد

تمت وصلوا على محمد

الفاتح الخاتم المقرّب

الفاتح الخاتم المقرّب

It is complete; and send blessings upon Muhammad,

It is complete, send blessings upon Muhammad

The opener, the seal, the one brought near.

Opener, Seal, brought near

سوق المعارف سوق المذاهب

سوق المعارف سوق المذاهب

وفيه كل الفنون تجلب

وفيه كل الفنون تجلب

The marketplace of knowledge, the marketplace of schools of thought,

Market of knowledges, market of ways

And into it all the arts are brought.

Where all arts are obtained

صلاة ربي عليه دائم

صلاة ربي عليه دائم

ما لاح فجر ونار كوكب

ما لاح فجر ونار كوكب

My Lord's blessing upon him is unceasing,

Continuous prayers from my Lord upon him

As long as dawn gleams and a star shines.

As dawn gleams and planets burn

واعطف وارجع لقولك أوّل

واعطف وارجع لقولك أوّل

ذهبت فيك بكلّ مذهب

ذهبت فيك بكلّ مذهب

And turn back and return to your first words:

And return and repeat your first words

In you I have followed every path.
