غزيل الرملة أشفقي

بالواله العاشق الكئيب

بالواله العاشق الكئيب

Little gazelle of the sand, have pity

The gazelle of the sand dune, have mercy

on the lovesick, sorrowful lover.

On the suffering, lovelorn lover

أودّ من ثغرك النقي

أودّ من ثغرك النقي

قبلة تطفي لي اللهيب

قبلة تطفي لي اللهيب

From your pure lips I desire

I wish from your pure lips

a kiss to quench my flame.

A kiss to extinguish my flame

فما لقى مثل ما لقى

فما لقى مثل ما لقى

قلبي لهجراك يا حبيب

قلبي لهجراك يا حبيب

For none has endured the like of what

For my heart has not experienced

my heart endured through your desertion, O beloved.

Anything like your abandonment, my beloved

من سله البين ما رقى

من سله البين ما رقى

كلا ولا له ولا طبيب

كلا ولا له ولا طبيب

One whom separation has wasted finds no healing,

No one who bears separation ever ascends

no indeed—none for him, nor any physician,

Not at all, he has no refuge or healer

إلا إذا جاد حبه

إلا إذا جاد حبه

بوصله ثم قربه

بوصله ثم قربه

unless his beloved is generous

Except if his love is generous

with union, and then nearness to him.

With a reunion, drawing him near

فذلك إذا أسعده ربه

فذلك إذا أسعده ربه

من حبه المّه ما شقى

من حبه المّه ما شقى

And that comes when his Lord makes him fortunate.

For that is when his Lord makes him prosperous

He whose beloved comes to him knows no misery;

He who loves Him is not wretched

فذاك بالبخت والنصيب

فذاك بالبخت والنصيب

نرجو من اللَه نلتقي

نرجو من اللَه نلتقي

so that is through good fortune and destiny.

That is good fortune and destiny

We hope God will let us meet,

We hope from Allah we will reunite

والقلب بالملتقى يطيب

والقلب بالملتقى يطيب

عجبت يا ليل ما أطولك

عجبت يا ليل ما أطولك

and the heart grows glad at reunion.

And the heart will be joyful with the meeting

I marvel, O night, how long you are

Strange, O night, how long you are

بالبعد وأوحشك وأكربك

بالبعد وأوحشك وأكربك

فانني قد شكوت لك

فانني قد شكوت لك

in separation—and how desolate and distressing!

With the distance, how desolate and vast you are

For I have already complained to you,

For I have complained to you

يا ليل من فعل كوكبك

يا ليل من فعل كوكبك

يا نجم ماذا يحلّ لك

يا نجم ماذا يحلّ لك

O night, of what your star has done.

O night, about the deeds of your planets

O star, what makes it right for you

O star, what makes it right for you

تعزب وتترك صويحبك

تعزب وتترك صويحبك

كواكب الميل أرفقي

كواكب الميل أرفقي

to vanish and leave your little companion?

To disappear, leaving your companion

Stars of longing, be gentle,

Planets of the night, be gentle

وآنسي وحشة الغريب

وآنسي وحشة الغريب

ذا دهر معدوم وفاؤه

ذا دهر معدوم وفاؤه

and soothe the stranger's loneliness.

And console the stranger's loneliness

This is an age bereft of its faithfulness,

This is an age devoid of loyalty

كواكبه وضياؤه

كواكبه وضياؤه

قلبي عدمت دواؤه

قلبي عدمت دواؤه

its stars and its radiance.

Its planets and brilliance

My heart—I have lost its remedy.

My heart, its remedy is lost

عويذله تحققي

عويذله تحققي

اني إلى النصح لا أجيب

اني إلى النصح لا أجيب

Little reprover, know for certain

Take heed, be certain

that I will not heed advice.

I have trusted in my Creator

قد اتثقت بخالقي

قد اتثقت بخالقي

وراحي اللَه لا يخيب

وراحي اللَه لا يخيب

I have put my trust in my Creator,

And my comfort, Allah does not disappoint

and [one who hopes in] God is never disappointed.

Our days, they all pass

أيامنا الكلّ رائحه

أيامنا الكلّ رائحه

فما الغنا غير طاعته

فما الغنا غير طاعته

All our days are passing away;

So there is no singing but obeying Him

so there is no wealth but obedience to Him.

And our deeds are not righteous

وأعمالنا غير صالحه

وأعمالنا غير صالحه

ان لم يسعها برحمته

ان لم يسعها برحمته

And our deeds are not righteous

If His mercy does not accommodate them

if He does not encompass them with His mercy.

O Allah, be forgiving with us

يا للّه لنا بالمسامحه

يا للّه لنا بالمسامحه

بحقّ أحمد وعترته

بحقّ أحمد وعترته

O God, grant us forgiveness,

For the right of Ahmad and his family

for the sake of Ahmad and his family.

O my soul, avoid evil

يا نفسي السوء اتقي

يا نفسي السوء اتقي

واستدركي الفوز من قريب

واستدركي الفوز من قريب

O my soul, guard against evil,

And regain success soon

and secure salvation soon.

For on Judgement Day

فان يوم القيامة

فان يوم القيامة

أخشى عليك الندامه

أخشى عليك الندامه

For on the Day of Resurrection,

I fear regret for you

I fear remorse for you,

And you will not find safety

وليس تلقى سلامه

وليس تلقى سلامه

ان لم تتوبي وتصدقي

ان لم تتوبي وتصدقي

and you will find no safety

Unless you repent and give charity

unless you repent and are truthful,

With a heart sincere and bending to Him

بقلب مخلص له منيب

بقلب مخلص له منيب

تمت وصلوا على التقى

تمت وصلوا على التقى

with a sincere heart that turns back to Him.

It is done, send prayers on the pure one

It is finished; send blessings upon the pious one,
