ألا يا قلب فارحل عن الأكوان جمله

إلى قرب المكوّن عسى تحظى بوصله

إلى قرب المكوّن عسى تحظى بوصله

Listen, O heart, depart from all created worlds,

Oh heart, depart from all creation

Toward nearness to the Creator; perhaps you will attain union with Him.

And journey to the Creator, that you may attain union with Him

تفكر لي في الكون وانظر كيف أصله

تفكر لي في الكون وانظر كيف أصله

تجده الكلّ محتاج إلى جوده وفضله

تجده الكلّ محتاج إلى جوده وفضله

Reflect for me on the universe, and consider how it began.

Contemplate the universe and see how it began

You will find it all in need of His generosity and bounty.

You will find all in need of His bounty and grace

تفكر كيف أصلك والا صرت مفتون

تفكر كيف أصلك والا صرت مفتون

فهل أصل القدم كالعدم ماذا تقولون

فهل أصل القدم كالعدم ماذا تقولون

Reflect on how you came to be, or else you will become deluded.

Contemplate your own origin, lest you become enraptured

Is the source of eternity, then, like nonexistence? What do you say?

Is the origin of existence like nothingness? What do you say?

أقام الكون ربي بسرّ الكاف والنون

أقام الكون ربي بسرّ الكاف والنون

تلاشت جمع الاشيا وصار الكلّ فعله

تلاشت جمع الاشيا وصار الكلّ فعله

My Lord established the universe through the secret of kāf and nūn.

My Lord established the universe through the secret of Kun (Be)

All things vanished, and everything became His act.

All things dissipated and became but His action

ترى جمع العوالم من الفيض الإلهي

ترى جمع العوالم من الفيض الإلهي

بمدّ الروح الأعلى بالأنوار البواهي

بمدّ الروح الأعلى بالأنوار البواهي

You see all the worlds issuing from the divine outpouring,

You see all the worlds from the divine effusion

By sustaining the highest spirit with resplendent lights.

With the diffusion of the Supreme Spirit and splendid lights

سرى سرّه في الأرواح وكوّنها كما هي

سرى سرّه في الأرواح وكوّنها كما هي

تقدّس بل تعالى وحاز الجود كله

تقدّس بل تعالى وحاز الجود كله

His secret coursed through the spirits, and He formed them as they are.

Its mystery flowed into souls and formed them as they are

He is holy—nay, exalted—and possesses all generosity.

Transcendent and Exalted, possessing all generosity

فسبحان الذي احتجب عنا بنوره

فسبحان الذي احتجب عنا بنوره

حجب بالنور يا صاح من شدّة ظهوره

حجب بالنور يا صاح من شدّة ظهوره

So glory be to Him who veiled Himself from us with His light.

Glory to Him who is veiled from us by His Light

He is veiled by light, O friend, because of the intensity of His manifestation.

Veiled by Light, oh friend, from the intensity of His manifestation

ومن صابه مطر غيث فضله يا سروره

ومن صابه مطر غيث فضله يا سروره

يحوز الفوز منه يظله تحت ظله

يحوز الفوز منه يظله تحت ظله

And whoever is touched by the life-giving rain of His bounty—oh, his joy!—

And he who is touched by the rain of His grace and favor

Gains triumph from Him; He shelters him beneath His shade.

Attains felicity, shaded by His shade
