شهاب الدين قد أحييت ذكرا

شهاب الدين قد أحييت ذكرا

لأرباب الكمال وزدت فخرا

لأرباب الكمال وزدت فخرا

Shihab al-Din, you have revived the memory

Shihab al-Din you have revived a memory

Of the masters of perfection, and increased their honor.

Of the people of perfection and increased pride

فقد نظمته عقداً ثمينا

فقد نظمته عقداً ثمينا

حوى كم جوهر عال ودرّا

حوى كم جوهر عال ودرّا

For you have strung it into a precious necklace,

For you have composed it a precious necklace

Holding many a lofty jewel and pearl.

Containing much sublime essence and pearls

علوت بذكركم أعلاك ربي

علوت بذكركم أعلاك ربي

وأجزاك على ذا الفعل أجرا

وأجزاك على ذا الفعل أجرا

You rose through your remembrance; may my Lord exalt you,

You have risen in your mention, my Lord exalted you

And grant you a reward for this deed,

And may He reward you for this deed with reward

وزادكم على الكسبي وهبا

وزادكم على الكسبي وهبا

وعوّضكم عن التعسير يسرا

وعوّضكم عن التعسير يسرا

And give you gifts beyond what you have earned,

And increase you beyond acquisition and grant

And replace hardship for you with ease.

And compensate you for hardship with ease

لكونك يا شهاب الدين صدقا

لكونك يا شهاب الدين صدقا

إماماً فاضلاً في العلم حبرا

إماماً فاضلاً في العلم حبرا

For you, O Shihab al-Din, are truly

For you, O Shihab al-Din, are truly

A virtuous imam, a scholar of great learning.

A virtuous imam in knowledge, a sea

مشايخنا اليمنيون جلوا

مشايخنا اليمنيون جلوا

بما أوردت في الطبقات قدرا

بما أوردت في الطبقات قدرا

Our Yemeni shaykhs have grown eminent

Our Yemeni shaykhs have excelled

In stature through what you included in the Tabaqat.

With what you have presented in the Tabaqat of worth

فقد وردت أحاديث صحاح

فقد وردت أحاديث صحاح

بفضل أو يسهم للكلّ طرّا

بفضل أو يسهم للكلّ طرّا

For authentic traditions have come down

For you have conveyed authentic narrations

Concerning merit—or a share granted to all without exception.

By the grace of all an artery gushed forth

فكم علما وكم فقهاء كانوا

فكم علما وكم فقهاء كانوا

وكم صلحا جهابذة وقرّا

وكم صلحا جهابذة وقرّا

For how many scholars and jurists there were,

So much knowledge and jurists there were

And how many righteous men, master scholars, and reciters!

And much righteous pillars and sanctuaries

إذا ضاقت بك الأيام ذرعا

إذا ضاقت بك الأيام ذرعا

فذكرهم يمزّق كلّ ضرّا

فذكرهم يمزّق كلّ ضرّا

When the days constrain you beyond endurance,

When days are straitened upon you

Then remembrance of them tears every harm apart.

Their mention rips apart every harm

وصلى اللَه ربي كلّ حين

وصلى اللَه ربي كلّ حين

على خير الورى قدرا وفخرا

على خير الورى قدرا وفخرا

And may God, my Lord, send blessings at every moment

And may my Lord bless

Upon the best of creation in rank and honor.

The best of creation, always, of worth and pride
