ألا أبلغ هديت أبا دلامة

ألا أبلغ هديت أبا دلامة

فليس من الكرام ولا كرامة

فليس من الكرام ولا كرامة

Listen! Tell Abū Dulāma—may you be guided—

Convey to Abu Dalama my gift:

For he is not among the noble, nor has he any honor.

Honor is not from the turban, nor dignity from it.

إذا لبس العمامة كان قرداً

إذا لبس العمامة كان قرداً

وخنزيراً إذا وضع العمامة

وخنزيراً إذا وضع العمامة

When he puts on the turban, he is a monkey,

If the ape wears the turban, he is still an ape;

And a pig when he takes the turban off.

And if the pig wears the turban, he remains a pig.
