    If a man does not seek a livelihood for himself,

    He complains of poverty, or blames his friend, and goes on at length.

    And he becomes a burden on those nearest him, and soon

    His kinsfolk’s gifts to him are withheld.

    So travel through God’s lands and seek wealth:

    You will live as a man of means, or die and be excused.

    And no seeker of what he needs, in any direction,

    Among people, is other than one who strives hard and girds himself.

    وكيف ينام الليل من كان معمرا

    Do not settle for a meager living, and do not sleep;

    And how can one granted a long life sleep through the night?
