أيهاO الصاحبُcompanion المحافظُfaithful قدindeed حمyou have burdened—
أيها الصاحبُ المحافظُ قد حم
لتَنَا—us منthrough وفاءfulfillment عَهدكyour pledge دَيناa debt
لتَنَا من وفاء عَهدك دَينا
O faithful companion, you have indeed burdened
us with a debt through your fidelity to your pledge.
نحنwe بالشامin Syria رهنَheld captive by شوقٍlonging اليكمfor you
نحن بالشام رهنَ شوقٍ اليكم
هلis there? لديكمwith you بمصرَin Egypt شوقٌlonging إليناfor us
هل لديكم بمصرَ شوقٌ إلينا
We in Syria are held captive by longing for you.
Do you in Egypt feel any longing for us?
قدindeed غلبناwe were overcome بماby what حرمناwe were denied عليكمin reaching you
قد غلبنا بما حرمنا عليكم
وغلبتمand you were overcome بماby what رزقتمyou were granted عليناin reaching us
وغلبتم بما رزقتم علينا
We have been kept from you by what we have been denied,
and you have been kept from us by what you have been granted.
فعجزناso we were unable عنto أنthat تروناyou see us لديكمwhere you are
فعجزنا عن أن ترونا لديكم
وعجزتمand you were unable عنto أنthat نراكمwe see you لديناwhere we are
وعجزتم عن أن نراكم لدينا
So we cannot be there for you to see us,
nor can you be here for us to see you.
حفِظmay He preserve اللهGod عهدthe pledge مَنof whoever حفظkept العهدthe pledge
حفِظ الله عهد مَن حفظ العهد
وأوفىand fulfilled بهit كماjust as قدindeed وفَيناwe have fulfilled
وأوفى به كما قد وفَينا
May God preserve the pledge of whoever has kept the pledge
and fulfilled it, as we have fulfilled ours.
