I congratulated the one I love at his circumcision,
I congratulated the one I love on his circumcision
joyfully, though my heart was overcome with dismay.
With joy, while my heart was filled with sadness

يخشى عليك إذا ثناك نسيم
May a man ransom you from the pain that befell you—
May he who caused you pain be ransomed for your pain
one who fears for you whenever a breeze bends you.
I fear for you when the breeze touches you

How could I bear to see you hurt?
with such fortitude, when the gazelle is the most timid of creatures?
