Turning away was mentioned to the one I love, so he turned away.
He described the rejection of the one I love so I was rejected
And he seemed to jest about abandonment, then grew serious.
And he began to jest with estrangement so I was serious
مالهُwhy does he يعدلturn away عنيfrom me غيرهُsomeone other than him
وهوwhile he لاnot يعدِلُهُequals him عنديin my eyes أَحَدْanyone
Why does he turn from me to another,
He has no equal in my eyes though to him
when no one, in my eyes, is his equal?
No one equals me, that's what I reckon

Do not try to catch al-Fadl off guard—and who
Do not seek favors and graces from one
seeks an unguarded moment in the lion's thicket?
Who seeks favors is vile and mean
مَلِكٌa king نَدْفعُwe ward off ماwhat نخشىwe fear بهthrough him
وبهand through him نُصلِحُwe mend منَّاamong us ماwhat فَسَدْhas gone wrong
A king through whom we ward off what we fear,
A king we avert what we fear through him
and through him we mend what has gone wrong among us.
And through him we set right what's ruined

People fulfill their pledges when they have promised;
People fulfill when they make a promise
but when al-Fadl has fulfilled, he promises.
And when graces fulfill a promise
