لقدindeed قَرَعَstruck الواشيthe slanderer بأهونِwith the slightest سعيهِhis effort
لقد قَرَعَ الواشي بأهونِ سعيهِ
صفاةًa hard rock قديمأًlong before أخطأتهاhad missed it القوارعُthe calamities
صفاةً قديمأً أخطأتها القوارعُ
Indeed, the informer, with the slightest of his efforts, struck
Indeed, with his slightest effort, the slanderer has struck
The washer struck with his feeble hand
a rock that the blows of fate had long failed to strike.

An ancient chime its mallets could not find
فأقلقنيso he unsettled me فيin ضعفهhis weakness وهوwhile he ساكنٌstill
فأقلقني في ضعفه وهو ساكنٌ
وشرَّدَand he drove away عنfrom عينيmy eye الكرىslumber وهوwhile he هاجعasleep
وشرَّدَ عن عيني الكرى وهو هاجع
And so, weak as he was, he disquieted me while sitting still,
So, weak as he is, he unsettled me while remaining still,
His weakness stirred me though he stayed serene
and drove sleep from my eyes while he lay asleep.
and drove slumber from my eye while he himself slept.
And drove sweet sleep away though he was still
