وكأنَّ بابَك مجمعُ الأسواقِ
Why do I see their doors deserted,
Why do I see their doors deserted,
while your door seems the meeting place of all the markets?
while your door seems a place where markets meet?
أرجَوْكdid they hope in you? أمor خافوكthey feared you أمor شامواthey glimpsed الحياthe rain
أرجَوْك أم خافوك أم شاموا الحيا
بحَرَاكَin your precinct فانتجعواso they sought pasture منfrom الآفاقِthe horizons
بحَرَاكَ فانتجعوا من الآفاقِ
Did they place their hopes in you, or fear you, or glimpse the life-giving rain
Did they look to you in hope, or fear you, or glimpse the rain
in your courtyard, and so journey here from every horizon seeking its bounty?
in your precinct, and so come from the horizons seeking pasture?
