You have indeed enriched me in every circumstance,
You have enriched me in every state
with the prestige and wealth you have bestowed.
With what you have bestowed of status and wealth
وقدand indeed آمنتنيyou have made me safe منfrom كلِّevery خوفٍfear

And you have made me safe from every fear
And you have secured me from every fear
anticipated from a position or an utterance.
That monitors from a place or saying
فلاso not الأيامthe days تُضمرِharbor ليtoward me عِناداًhostility
لكونيbecause of my being فيin ذَراكyour shelter ولاnor اللياليthe nights
So the days harbor no hostility toward me,
So neither do the days harbor malice towards me
since I am in your shelter—nor do the nights.
For my being in your sight, nor the nights
أَصَدرَO Sadr الدينal-Din دعوةَa plea مُستَجيرٍof one seeking refuge
بحبِّكin your love منfrom مباغضةthe hostility الرجالof men
O Sadr al-Din—a plea from one seeking refuge
Religion has issued a plea for protection
in your love from the hostility of men.
With your love from the hatred of men
جعلتَyou made الناسَthe people حُسَّاديmy enviers جميعاًall
بماwith what أوليتنيهِyou bestowed it upon me منof النَّوالِbounty
You have made all people my enviers
You have made all people envious of me
through the bounty you have bestowed upon me.
With what you have granted me of gifts
وكمand how many فيin مصرَEgypt عنديknown to me منof غنىa rich man
وفقريyet my poverty لاnot يمرُّpasses لهfor him ببالِthrough the mind
And how many a rich man I know in Egypt,
And how much wealth I have in Egypt
yet my poverty never crosses his mind.
Yet my poverty does not cross its mind
يقابلنيhe responds to me علىfor مدحيmy praise بشكرٍwith thanks
فأقنعso I content myself بالمحالwith nonsense عنinstead of المُحَالِthe impossible
He responds to me with thanks for my praise,
They meet my praise with gratitude
so I settle for nonsense in place of the impossible.
So I content myself with the impossible over the possible
وبيand in me ضعفٌweakness مدىthroughout الأيامthe days يقوىgrows stronger

علىover جسمٍa body ضعيفٍweak كالخلالlike a toothpick
And a weakness in me grows stronger as the days pass,
And in me is a weakness that grows over time
over a body frail as a toothpick.
In a frail body like beads
وحُمَّىand a fever قدalready غداhas become كانواُapparently Kanun, a winter month (corrupted spelling) عنديfor me
بهاthrough it تَمُّوزَTammuz, a summer month منfrom غيرwithout انتقالtransition
And a fever: Kanun has become, for me,
And fever has become like a well in me
through it, Tammuz, without any transition.
Through which the heat of July passes without change
وبيand in me جَرَبٌscabies إذاwhen أدماهُmakes it bleed حكّىmy scratching

And I have scabies: when my scratching makes it bleed,
And in me is scabies, if it persists it tells
agate flows from it over the pearls.
The carnelian runs over it

And my life has died in obscurity;
And my life has died in somnolence
take notice of me, now that my illness is confirmed.
Wake for me now that my illness has subsided
