ليتَ شعري ماذا تقول إذا ما
رُمتَyou sought شقيmy undoing قلtell ليme بأيby which طريقِway
رُمتَ شقي قل لي بأي طريقِ
Would that I knew what you will say when
I wonder what you would say if
you seek my undoing—tell me, by what means?
You were thrown my way, tell me by which path
علمknows اللَهGod ماnot مضيتُI went رَسولاas a messenger
علم اللَه ما مضيتُ رَسولا
قطُّever منfrom عندthe presence of ابنتيmy daughter لعشيقto a lover
قطُّ من عند ابنتي لعشيق
God knows I have never gone as a messenger,

not once, from my daughter to a lover.

لاno ولاand not بتُّI spent the night فيin مكانa place طُفيليas a sponger (first part)
لا ولا بتُّ في مكان طُفيلي
ياcompletion of 'as a sponger' كغيريlike others besides me فيin طاعةٍdevotion وفسُوقٍand debauchery
يا كغيري في طاعةٍ وفسُوقٍ
No, nor have I spent the night anywhere as a sponger,
No, nor have I stayed in a place of disgrace
like others, in devotion and debauchery.
