وأَذَبتَ قلبي في الهوى

ظُلماً بنار جَوىً ووَجد

ظُلماً بنار جَوىً ووَجد

and melted my heart in love,

You have wronged my heart with passion

unjustly, with the fire of anguish and passion,

Unjustly with burning agony and yearning

وجَعَلتَ طَرفي بالأسى

وجَعَلتَ طَرفي بالأسى

وَقفاً على دَمعي وسُهدي

وَقفاً على دَمعي وسُهدي

and made my eyes, through grief,

And you have made my eyes weep

devoted to my tears and sleeplessness?

Pausing at my tears and sleeplessness

وأرى الإساءة منك ح

وأرى الإساءة منك ح

ين تُسِئُ كالإِحسانِ عندي

ين تُسِئُ كالإِحسانِ عندي

And I regard your ill-treatment, when

And I see harm from you

you wrong me, as kindness in my eyes.

When you do wrong as though it were kindness to me

حَتَّامَ أُخفِي في هوا

حَتَّامَ أُخفِي في هوا

ك صَبابَتي والدمع يُبدي

ك صَبابَتي والدمع يُبدي

How long shall I hide, in loving

So I conceal my love for you

you, my yearning, while tears reveal it?

My youth and the tears that reveal it

أنا قد أَتيتُكَ قاصِداً

أنا قد أَتيتُكَ قاصِداً

فعساك تعرف حَقَّ قَصدي

فعساك تعرف حَقَّ قَصدي

I have indeed come to you with a purpose;

I have come to you with intention

so may you recognize what my coming deserves.

Hopefully you know the rightness of my aim

عَلِقَت بذيلِ رجاك آ

مالي فَعَلَّلها بوَعدِ

To the hem of hope in you have clung

My hopes cling to the hem of your mercy

my hopes; soothe them with a promise.

Excuse them with a promise

شوقي إليك كما علم

تَ يَجِلُّ عن حَصرٍ وحَدِّ

تَ يَجِلُّ عن حَصرٍ وحَدِّ

My longing for you, as you have

My longing for you, as you know

known, is beyond measure and limit.
