Poetry was ennobled by composing your praise,
The poems have been ennobled by your praise,
And thoughts were bewildered in describing you.
And thoughts are perplexed in describing you.
وأطاعكand obeyed you الذِّهنُthe mind القَصيُّdistant ملبِّياًanswering the call

And the distant mind obeyed you, answering your call,
The resolute mind obeys you willingly,
And the fates moved according to your decree.
And fates are controlled by your judgement.

No sooner did the night of calamity fall than there shone
The night of tribulations shone only when you did,
And sparkled lights from your cheeks.
And lights glimmered from your bright face.

And after the lightning of your glad tidings, rain fell for the
After the lightning of your good news, the clouds of generosity
Suppliant from clouds whose bounty was pure gold.
Poured down their fresh, lively rain.

You are the generous one; set aside what has been told
You are the generous one, and leave out what has been said
Of those gone before by chronicles in their books.
By those who passed in their books and tales.

A character as gentle as water, pleasing to a drinker
A gentle disposition, pleasing to one who drinks,
Athirst, and a resolve that is fire in its blazing.
And a burning resolve and fire when roused.

Who is there to match you in glory and in
Who can tell of your glory and noble lineage,
Honor, when your forefather is Ja'far al-Tayyar?
You are Jafar the magnificent flier.

يومَon the day of الوغىbattle أنto تُبذَلَbe sacrificed الأعمَارُlives
And you are indeed of a people for whom it is easy,
You are of a people who think it trivial
On the day of battle, to give up their lives.
To sacrifice lives in the heat of battle.

A people who have chosen praise, because it
A people who chose praise because
Endures forever—and excellent is what they chose!
It lasts forever, and excellent was what they chose.

They knew—and indeed knew the truth—that
They knew, and knew the truth, that
Neither a dirham nor a dinar endures.
No coin or dinar remains.
