أمولايَO my lord ماnot منamong طباعيmy natural inclinations الخروجُgoing out
أمولايَ ما من طباعي الخروجُ
ولكنand yet تعلمتُهُI learned it بالخمولthrough obscurity
ولكن تعلمتُهُ بالخمول
O my lord, going out is not in my nature,
My Master, roaming is not my nature
But I learned it through obscurity.
But idleness has taught me this habit
وصرتُand I began أرومُI seek لديكin your presence الغِنىwealth
وصرتُ أرومُ لديك الغِنى
فيخرجنيso it drives me out الضربُthe beating عندupon الدخولentering
فيخرجني الضربُ عند الدخول
And I began seeking riches from you,
And so I've grown accustomed to seek from you sustenance
So blows drive me out when I enter.
But your blows drive me out as I enter
