والدَّهرَand time يحجُبُhides عنيfrom me حُسنَthe beauty of مرآكاyour appearance
How long I have soothed my hopes with the prospect of meeting you,
How much I justify my hopes in seeing you
While time hides from me the beauty of your appearance.
While time hides your beautiful sight from me
ولستand I am not أحسبI count منof لهوىfor love سوىexcept زَمنa time
فيهin it تمتَّعَtook delight طرفيmy gaze منfrom مُحيَّاكاyour face
Nor do I count any time of love except the time
And I don't think love is anything but a time
In which my gaze took delight in your face.
In which my eyes enjoyed your greeting

بالهَجرِthrough abandonment رفقاًgently بقلبيwith my heart فهوfor it is مأواكاyour home
O you who dwell in my heart, yet destroy it
O you who live in my heart though it withers
By shunning me—be gentle with my heart, for it is your home.
Gently, for my heart's sake, that is your home

I seek protection for you from rejection and from haughtiness;
I implore you, do not turn cold or aloof
Far be it from you not to honor affection—far be it from you!
Far be it from you to not consider affection, far be it from you

فيin الحبِّlove يوماًone day إذاif ماemphatic particle عدتُI became مُضناكاyour lovesick one
Promise me union with you, or visit me—it is no wonder
Promise me with your return or promise me, no wonder
In love if one day I become your lovesick one.
In love, if one day I promised, I'd tire you
رُحماكَyour mercy إنindeed الهوىlove لمnot يبقِleave منof جلديmy endurance
شيئاًa thing ولولاand were it not for الهوىlove ماnot قُلتُI said رحماكاyour mercy
Have mercy! For love has left of my endurance
May God have mercy on you, love left nothing
Nothing; and but for love, I would not have said, 'Have mercy!'
Of my skin, and if not for love, I'd not say "God have mercy on you"

I complain to your justice of sickness's tyranny in my body.
I complain to your justice of the injustice of illness in my body
May my Lord protect you from sickness and keep you well.
May my Lord protect you from illness and grant you wellness
