I have stored up my praise of the Prophet Muhammad

For a day when those guilty of grave sins are dragged away.

My sins, whose burden has weighed down my back,

Grow light if, through him, I have a deliverer.

I recalled, praise be to God, my poems in his praise,

For I delight in remembering them.

    Leave me be, for I am confident of goodness from him;

And a word from him at the Gathering suffices to save me.

Abandon fear, my heart, for there is intercession,

And through it an expert assayer effaces the counterfeit coin you possess.

My heedlessness of the lifetime that passed in vain

Has brought my heart back, torn to pieces with fear.

My life's passing has lodged regret in my heart,

So afterward it has nothing left to delight in.

The destruction of a man's life after he has lived it

Is permitted, for time gives and takes away.

[I was abased], yet I gained honor by praising the one

In whom I seek refuge from my sins on the morrow.

I have condemned verse that does not, in his praise,

Have pearls and peridot strung within it.
