كفىenough ماwhat جرىhas flowed ياO عينُeye منof دَمعtears حسرةٍregret
علىover عُمُرa lifetime أذهَبتهI squandered it فيin سِوَىother than النُّسكdevotion
Enough, O eye, of the tears of regret that have flowed
Enough of what has passed, O eye, of tearful regret
Over a lifetime I squandered on things other than devotion.
Over a life whose time I spent in other than devotion
كتبتُI wrote الذيwhat عنديwithin me منof الحُزنsorrow والأَسىand grief
وهلand does ينفعُbenefit الكتمانُconcealment منone who طرقُهhis eye (probable typo for طرفُه) يبكيweeps
I have written down the sorrow and grief within me;
I wrote what I had of sadness and sorrow
And can concealment help one whose eye weeps?
And does concealment avail from Him who makes lamentation knock?
كرِهتُI hated حياةًa life ماnot بلغتُI attained بهاin it مُنىًwishes
فعيشيso my life بهاin it فيin غايةthe utmost degree الضِّيقdistress والضَّنكand hardship
I have come to hate a life in which I fulfilled no hopes;
I disliked a life in which I attained no wish
So my life in it is utter distress and hardship.
So my living in it is extremely straitened and distressed
كفانيhas sufficed me رجائيmy hope فيin النبيّthe Prophet محمدMuhammad
فلاso there is no فرقَdifference بينbetween الأخذtaking عنديto me أوor التركforgoing
My hope in the Prophet Muhammad has sufficed me;
My hope in the Prophet Muhammad has sufficed me
So taking or forgoing makes no difference to me.
So there is no difference for me between taking or leaving
كريمُnoble المُحيَّاthe countenance يفضحُputs to shame البدرthe full moon نورُهhis light
وأوصافُهand his qualities تُزرىput to shame علىupon الدُّرِّpearls فيin المسِّلكthe string (contextual reading)
His countenance is noble; his light puts the full moon to shame,
The Generous Lord makes the full moon's light seem dim
And his qualities put pearls upon a string to shame.
And attributes of His dim the lustre of pearls on a necklace
كلوُنيentrust me (plural command) إلىto ماwhat ترتجيyou hope for منof شفاعةٍintercession
لهof his فيon غدthe morrow تمحوerases الذيwhat كانwas منof إفكيmy falsehood
Entrust me to the intercession you hope for
My colour tends toward what you hope for in intercession
From him on the morrow, erasing my past falsehoods.
From Him tomorrow erasing what was of my lies

It is as though I see myself standing at his pool,
It is as if I see my soul has attained at his basin
And those pitchers have been sealed with musk.
And those jugs have been sealed with musk

I have grown old; youth and its season have passed,
I have grown old and youth has turned its back and left its time
And I surely hope for pardon from the Master of dominion.
And I still hope for pardon from the Owner of the Kingdom
كماas جاءwas stated فيin القرآنthe Qur'an يغفرHe forgives ذنوبناour sins
إذاif شاءHe wills كلَّall السيئاتmisdeeds سوىexcept الشِّركassociating partners with God
As stated in the Qur'an, He forgives our sins,
As it came in the Qur'an, He forgives our sins
If He wills—all misdeeds except associating partners with Him.
If He wills, all evil deeds except associating others with Him
كأنas though بياضَthe whiteness of الشَّيبِgrey hair ثوبٌa robe إنابَةٍrepentance

It is as though the whiteness of grey hair were a robe of repentance
It is as if the whiteness of old age is a garment of return
That I have donned for Him after jesting and laughter.
Which I wore after playfulness and laughter
