I swear, through Muhammad's religion we have attained

right guidance into which no ill repute could enter.

    فحسبُ عداهُ في الوغَى القتلُ والسَّبيُ

    He unsheathes his gleaming swords against his enemies;

so death and captivity suffice for his foes in battle.

His religion brings us closer to the Creator of creation,

and the commands and prohibitions in his speech guide us.

His law embraces all mankind with justice and security,

so in his dominion the gazelle does not fear the lion.

He guards Islam's sanctuary at his Lord's command,

with what came in the Qur'an when revelation descended.

Every speaker is seen to fall short beside him,

and neither speechlessness nor inarticulacy assails him.

The wellsprings of eloquence's secrets were made to gush forth

through his speech—or rather, the watering reached his whole community.

His distance brings death, and his nearness brings life,

and among mankind the dead and the living are not equal.

The one who loves him wins the gardens of hearts,

and there his garment is silk adorned with embroidery.

Praising him diverts my heart from my love verse,

so let there be no Ghaylan, and let Mayy never be mentioned.
