زمنُdays الغضَاthe ghada trees فيin القلبِthe heart بعدكَafter you لوعةُburning anguish
تذكرىmy remembrance بنارِwith the fire of الشَّوقlonging لاnot نارfire الغَضَاthe ghada trees
Days of the ghada trees, after you my heart bears the ache
The time of anger in my heart after you is agony
Of my remembrance, burning with longing’s fire, not the fire of ghada wood.
My memories burn with the fire of longing, not the fire of anger
ماnot كانتwere اللذاتُthe pleasures فيكin you ولاnor الهوىlove
إلاexcept كبرقٍlike lightning فيin الدجنَّةِthe deep darkness أومضَاflashed
The pleasures in you, and love, were no more
The pleasures in you were never, nor was love
Than a flash of lightning in the deep darkness.
Just like lightning flickering in the darkness that soon passes

And when I yearned for its faded traces,
And if I wander the ruins where your home once stood
The one repeating his lesson said, “This has passed.”
The teacher says to his lesson: “That’s already passed”
