رَضيعُa nursling المُدامِaged wine فارقَparted from الراحَthe wine روحُهُhis soul
رَضيعُ المُدامِ فارقَ الراحَ روحُهُ
فَظَلَّso he remained عَلَيهاover it مُستَهِلَّstreaming المَدامِعِthe tear ducts
فَظَلَّ عَلَيها مُستَهِلَّ المَدامِعِ
The nursling of wine—his soul has parted from the vintage,
A nursling of aged wine—his soul has parted from wine,
The infant of the tavern left his soul
The soul of the one suckled on wine has parted from the cup,
and he remained bent over it, his tears streaming.
so he kept weeping over it.
And upon it remained the outpouring of tears
And thus he remained, shedding a downpour of tears over it.
أَديراyou two, pass around عَليَّto me الكأسَthe cup إِنّيindeed I فَقَدتُهاI have lost it
أَديرا عَليَّ الكأسَ إِنّي فَقَدتُها
كَماjust as فَقَدَlost المَفطومُthe weaned child دَرَّthe flowing milk of المَراضِعِthe wet nurses
كَما فَقَدَ المَفطومُ دَرَّ المَراضِعِ
You two, pass me the cup—for I have been deprived of it,
You two, pass the cup round to me; I have lost it,
Pass me the cup for I have lost it
Pass the cup to me, my companions, for I have lost it,
as a weaned child is deprived of the milk flowing from nursing mothers.
as the weaned child lost the flowing milk of wet nurses.
As the weaned child lost the breast of the wet nurse
Just as the weaned infant has lost the flowing milk of the wet nurses.
