وأني على الأوكار أصطاد خاطبا

And I on the dens hunt down a lover

Throughout time, out of my turmoil, the elusive phoenix.

On time from my nightingales, a setting sun of the west

وإن كانت العنقاء ممنعة أهي

And though the phoenix is unassailable, I wander

And even if the nightingale is forbidden, does it

In the wilderness of journeying, through Najd to Yathrib,

Have glory in its migration, migration to Yathrib

إلى أن أرى منها المسمى بمجمع

إلى أن أرى منها المسمى بمجمع

البحار ويدنو إلى الزلال من الجب

البحار ويدنو إلى الزلال من الجب

Until I behold from her what is called the Confluence

Until I see the one called the meeting place

Of the Seas, and he draws near the clear water from the well.

Of the seas and comes close to the fresh water from the mountain

فأرمي عصا التسيار من شغفي بها

وأكتمها حشو الفؤاد من الصب
