تزود من الدنيا فإنك راحل

تزود من الدنيا فإنك راحل

وبادر فإن الموت لا شك نازل

Take provision from this world, for you are departing;

and hasten, for death, without a doubt, is descending.

نجاتك في الدنيا غرور وحسرة

وحزنك في الدنيا محال وباطل

Your deliverance in this world is delusion and bitter regret,

Your deliverance in this world is delusion and regret.

and your sorrow in this world is absurd and vain.

ألا إنما الدنيا كمنزل راكب

ألا إنما الدنيا كمنزل راكب

أراح عشيا وهو في الصبح راحل

أراح عشيا وهو في الصبح راحل

Behold, this world is only like a rider’s lodging:

Behold, this world is only like a rider's lodging:

he halts there at evening, then at dawn moves on.

He rested in the evening, and in the morning he departs.

ولو يعلم الإنسان ما يلتقي غدا

ولو يعلم الإنسان ما يلتقي غدا

بدار البقا ما غدا للشر فاعل

بدار البقا ما غدا للشر فاعل

If only humankind knew what they would meet tomorrow

And if man knew what he would encounter tomorrow

in the Abode Everlasting, they would not go forth to do evil.

In the abode of eternity, he would not become a doer of evil.

ألا إنما الدنيا كفخ مطوق

ألا إنما الدنيا كفخ مطوق

محبة ليشتاقوك فيه آكل

محبة ليشتاقوك فيه آكل

Behold, this world is only like a trap fitted with a noose—

Behold, this world is only like a trap encircled

love, so they may long for you within it, with food as bait.

With love, so that they may long for you; within it is a devourer.
