Ah, would that I knew what is said by the mighty

Oh, how I wish I knew what the great heights say

decrees of 'Be' amid the enraptured wisdoms.

Be veiled in transcendent, bewildering judgments

At Moses' vision, upon the platforms, there passed

Of Moses' vision on the Mount glimpsing

the divine manifestations of direct address.

Divine revelations and godly gnosis

تذكره بالطور عهدا وما قضت

تذكره بالطور عهدا وما قضت

هُ صدمته من لن تراني كفاحيه

هُ صدمته من لن تراني كفاحيه

They remind him at the Mount of a covenant, and of what was decreed

Recalling his covenant on Sinai and how

by his shock at 'You shall not see Me,' spoken face-to-face.

Its shocks struck him with "You will not see Me" directly

لإن برزخ المشهوديات به ترى

لإن برزخ المشهوديات به ترى

تشاهده فتق الرتقيات الهيولية

تشاهده فتق الرتقيات الهيولية

If indeed through him you see the isthmus of witnessed realities,

For through the isthmus of witnessed realities he sees

you behold it—the opening of the sealed realities of primordial matter.

And beholds Him rending the primal matter utterly

وقد طلسمته التدبيرات ما بدا

وقد طلسمته التدبيرات ما بدا

على كرة التخطيط مجلى الواحديه

على كرة التخطيط مجلى الواحديه

And the dispositions have shrouded it in talismans—what appeared

Schemes had spellbound him, nothing appeared

upon the sphere of delineation as a locus of manifested Oneness.

On the sphere of planning, polished by Oneness

وبعد انفتاق الرتق تشهدنا به

وبعد انفتاق الرتق تشهدنا به

على قدره في الذرة الزبرجديه

على قدره في الذرة الزبرجديه

And after the sealed was split open, we bore witness through it,

And after the rending of matter, we behold Him

according to its measure, in the chrysolite atom.

By His power in the atom, the emerald speck

أجيبوا عليلا قد تناسى قضايا الطو

Answer a sick man who has put aside the matters of

Answer me, did he forget Sinai's affairs

the Mount, because of what appeared in the higher human realities.

From what appeared in the lofty humanities?

رأى بتراجيع الأحاجي ذاك الذي

رأى ربه بالكشفيات العيانيه

He saw, through the refrains of riddles, the one who

He saw by the riddles' reversals, the one

saw his Lord through unveilings of direct vision.

Who saw his Lord by intuitive witnessing

وهل ما رآه قد تطامن جأشه

وهل ما رآه قد تطامن جأشه

به عن معمى الدائرات الشهوديه

به عن معمى الدائرات الشهوديه

And as for what he saw—has his heart grown calm

Could what he saw have distracted his ardency

through it, beyond the riddle of the circles of witnessing?

From the unclear circles of mystic witnessing?

فلم يتذكر ما قضته بذا النوى

فلم يتذكر ما قضته بذا النوى

بأشكال طور اللغزيات الإلهيه

بأشكال طور اللغزيات الإلهيه

So he did not recall what it decreed in this separation,

Thus he did not recall what Sinai ordained him

in the forms of the Mount of divine enigmas.

In the Mount's forms, the divine enigmas

ولو نجز المطلوب بالطور ما ردا

ولو نجز المطلوب بالطور ما ردا

ه إلا بمقدار المرائي الموسويه

ه إلا بمقدار المرائي الموسويه

And had the sought-for been fulfilled at the Mount, it would not have felled

Had he fulfilled the demand on Sinai, he would not have returned

him, save in proportion to the Mosaic visions.

Except by the measure of Mosaic envisioning

أجيبوا صريعا ما تواني عن المعا

لي بل يتعالى في اقتناص العنقائيه

Answer a stricken man who never slackened in pursuing

Answer me, did he hesitate from the lofty meanings?

the heights, but rises higher in capturing the phoenix.

Rather he transcends in grasping spirits

يسير على متن الأسنة خاطبا

He treads the backs of spearheads, wooing

Journeying on the tips of tongues, addressing

the fair maidens of the meanings of spiritual gleams.

The meanings of spiritual tablets profoundly

وما قد ثناه ما لقاه من الردى

وما قد ثناه ما لقاه من الردى

على غثرها يهوى المغاني الوداديه

على غثرها يهوى المغاني الوداديه

And the death he encountered has not turned him aside;

That which deterred him is what he encountered of woes

despite their murk, he loves the abodes of affection.

Plunging for the sake love's songs

على أنه في الله قد كان مصرعا

على أنه في الله قد كان مصرعا

به لا الأغاني النجليات الظلمانيه

به لا الأغاني النجليات الظلمانيه

Though in God he had indeed been laid low,

Though in God he was slain

by Him, not by the dark, najlī songs.

Not for the dark, corporeal melodies
