وَهَت عزماتُكَ عندَ المشيبِ

وَهَت عزماتُكَ عندَ المشيبِ

وما كانَ من حَقِّها أن تَهِي

وما كانَ من حَقِّها أن تَهِي

Your resolves weakened at the coming of gray hair,

And your determination withered with age

Yet they ought not to have weakened.

Yet it was not their right that they wither

وأنكَرتَ نفسَكَ لما كَبِرتَ

وأنكَرتَ نفسَكَ لما كَبِرتَ

فلا هِيَ أَنتَ ولا أَنتَ هِي

فلا هِيَ أَنتَ ولا أَنتَ هِي

And you failed to recognize yourself when you grew old,

You denied yourself when you grew old

So it is not you, nor are you it.

So now, you are not you, nor is it the same

وإن ذُكِرَت شهواتُ النفوسِ

وإن ذُكِرَت شهواتُ النفوسِ

فما تشتهي غيرَ أن تشتهِي

فما تشتهي غيرَ أن تشتهِي

And if the desires of souls are mentioned,

And if the desires of the soul are mentioned

Then you desire nothing but to desire.

It desires nothing but to desire
