أنتَ امْرؤٌ لا تَرعوي تائباً

أنتَ امْرؤٌ لا تَرعوي تائباً

مِن شِمَةِ العُدْوانِ والظُّلْمِ

مِن شِمَةِ العُدْوانِ والظُّلْمِ

You are a man who does not turn back in repentance

You are a man who does not tend to the repentant

From the habit of aggression and injustice.

From the stigma of aggression and injustice

أغراكَ بالعُدوانِ طبعٌ خَلا

أغراكَ بالعُدوانِ طبعٌ خَلا

من شِيمَةِ العِصمَةِ والعِلْمِ

من شِيمَةِ العِصمَةِ والعِلْمِ

A disposition has lured you into aggression, devoid

Your innate aggression has deluded you

Of the traits of moral restraint and knowledge.

Devoid of the traits of infallibility and knowledge

لِذاكَ فارَقْتُكَ مُستَبدِلاً

لِذاكَ فارَقْتُكَ مُستَبدِلاً

مِنكَ امرأ مُستكمِلَ الحِلْمِ

مِنكَ امرأ مُستكمِلَ الحِلْمِ

For that reason I parted from you, replacing

Thus I have parted from you, substituting

You with a man of consummate forbearance.

You with a man complete in forbearance

يقودُهُ الحَقُّ فيَعنو لَهُ

يقودُهُ الحَقُّ فيَعنو لَهُ

ولا تأخُذْهُ العِزَّةُ بالإثْمِ

ولا تأخُذْهُ العِزَّةُ بالإثْمِ

Truth guides him, and so he bows to it;

Whom truth leads, so he complies

Nor does pride drive him into sin.

And arrogance does not take him to sin
