قد مرَّ أمسِ ولم يعبأْ بهِ أحدٌ
أفيin …? ثَواءٍsojourning وبؤسٍand misery مرَّpassed أمْor رغَدِease
أفي ثَواءٍ وبؤسٍ مرَّ أمْ رغَدِ
Yesterday has passed, and no one paid it any heed.
Yesterday has passed and no one cared for it
Did it pass in sojourning and misery, or in ease?
Did it pass in misery and sorrow or in prosperity?
وعنديَand I have ليومَfor the day قوتٌsustenance أستعينُI seek support بهِwith it
وعنديَ ليومَ قوتٌ أستعينُ بهِ
وإنْand if بقيتُI survive غداًtomorrow أصلحْتُI shall put in order أمرَthe affairs of غدِtomorrow
وإنْ بقيتُ غداً أصلحْتُ أمرَ غدِ
And I have sustenance for the day, with which I sustain myself.
I have today's sustenance that I make do with
And if I survive until tomorrow, I shall put tomorrow’s affairs in order.
And if I remain tomorrow, I will set right tomorrow’s affairs
