إذا رأيْتَ الوَداعَ فاصبِرْ

إذا رأيْتَ الوَداعَ فاصبِرْ

ولا يَهُمَّنَّكَ البِعادُ

ولا يَهُمَّنَّكَ البِعادُ

When you face farewell, be patient,

When you see farewell, have patience

And do not let separation trouble you.

Let not the distance trouble you

وانتظِرِ العَوْدَ مِن قَريبٍ

وانتظِرِ العَوْدَ مِن قَريبٍ

فإنَّ قَلْبَ الوَداعِ عادُوا

فإنَّ قَلْبَ الوَداعِ عادُوا

And await the return before long,

And wait for a soon return

For wadāʿ ('farewell'), reversed, is ʿādū ('they returned').

For the hearts of those who bid farewell will come back
