نَذوبُwe melt away ولكِنَّناand yet we لانَتوبُwe do not repent
نَذوبُ ولكِنَّنا لانَتوبُ
وماand what غابَhas passed منof عُمرِناour lifetime لاnot يَؤوبُreturns
وما غابَ من عُمرِنا لا يَؤوبُ
We melt away, yet we do not repent.
We melt away but do not repent
And what has passed of our lives does not return.
What is gone from our lives does not return
ونَرجوand we hope for البَقاءَcontinued life مُنىًwishes باطِلاًin vain
ونَرجو البَقاءَ مُنىً باطِلاً
وكَيفَand how البَقاءُendurance لجِسمٍfor a body يَذوبُmelts away
وكَيفَ البَقاءُ لجِسمٍ يَذوبُ
And we hope to live on, wishing in vain.
And we hope for eternal life in vain
And how can a body that melts away endure?
How can there be eternity for a melting body

We host Time with our lifetimes,
We lengthen time with our lives
And Time, our guest, is a voracious eater and drinker.
Yet time's guest is a gluttonous drinker
