عَينُthe eye الزَّمانِof Time أصابَتْناhas struck us فلاso may it not نظَرَتْsee
عَينُ الزَّمانِ أصابَتْنا فلا نظَرَتْ
وعذَّبَتْناand have tormented us صُروفُthe vicissitudes الدَّهرِof time ألواناin various ways
وعذَّبَتْنا صُروفُ الدَّهرِ ألوانا
Time’s eye has struck us—may it never see!
The eye of time has stricken us, it barely glances our way,
And the vicissitudes of time have tormented us in various ways.
And the cycles of fate torment us in so many ways.
