يقولونَthey say ذِكرُmemory المَرءِof a man يبقىendures بنَسلِهِthrough his offspring
يقولونَ ذِكرُ المَرءِ يبقى بنَسلِهِ
وليسَand there is no لهُfor him ذِكرٌremembrance إذاif لمnot يكُنْexist نَسلُoffspring
وليسَ لهُ ذِكرٌ إذا لم يكُنْ نَسلُ
They say a man's memory endures through his offspring,
They say a man's memory lives on in his progeny
and he is not remembered if he has no offspring.
Yet he has no memory if he has no progeny
فقلتُso I said لُهمْto them نَسليmy offspring بدائعُmarvels حِكمَتيof my wisdom
فقلتُ لُهمْ نَسلي بدائعُ حِكمَتي
فَمنْso whoever سَرَّهُgladdened him نَسلٌoffspring فأنّاso we بِذاin this نَسلوtake comfort
فَمنْ سَرَّهُ نَسلٌ فأنّا بِذا نَسلو
So I told them, “My offspring are the marvels of my wisdom;
I said to them, "My progeny are the gems of my wisdom
so whoever is gladdened by offspring—we take comfort in this.”
So whoever wants progeny, I have progeny enough."
