صلاحُthe welfare of العِبادِpeople ورُشْدُand the right guidance of الأُمَمْnations
صلاحُ العِبادِ ورُشْدُ الأُمَمْ
وأَمْنُand the safety of البَرِيَّةِhumankind منْfrom كُلِّevery غَمّsorrow
وأَمْنُ البَرِيَّةِ منْ كُلِّ غَمّ
The welfare of people and the right guidance of nations,
The welfare of worshippers and the guidance of nations
And humankind’s safety from every sorrow,
And the security of humanity from every worry
بشيئَيْنِthrough two things ماnot لَهُماfor the two of them ثالثٌa third
بشيئَيْنِ ما لَهُما ثالثٌ
بخَرقِthrough the piercing force of الحُسامِthe sword ورِفْقِand the gentleness of القَلَمْthe pen
بخَرقِ الحُسامِ ورِفْقِ القَلَمْ
Rest on two things, with no third:
Are through two things that have no third
Through the sword’s piercing force and the pen’s gentleness.
