أهلُthe people of هَذاthis الزَّمانِage عندَupon العَانِinspection (uncertain reading)
أهلُ هَذا الزَّمانِ عندَ العَانِ
إنْif تأمَّلتَyou reflect مِنْamong ذُكورِthe males of الضّانِsheep
إنْ تأمَّلتَ مِنْ ذُكورِ الضّانِ
The people of this age, on inspection,
if you reflect, are among the rams.
ثمَّfurthermore لَيسواthey are not مِنَamong السَّمينِthe fat معَwith الشِّقْوَةِwretchedness
ثمَّ لَيسوا مِنَ السَّمينِ معَ الشِّقْوَةِ
لكِنْbut مِنَamong الهَزيلِthe lean الضّانيthe sickly
لكِنْ مِنَ الهَزيلِ الضّاني
Moreover, for all their wretchedness, they are not among the fat,
but among the lean and sickly.
