كلامُwords الأميرِthe prince النَّدبِthe gallant فيin ثِنْيِthe fold of نَظمِهِhis verse
كلامُ الأميرِ النَّدبِ في ثِنْيِ نَظمِهِ
ينوبُtakes the place عنِof الماءِthe water الزُلالclear and sweet لِمَنْfor whoever يَظْماthirsts
ينوبُ عنِ الماءِ الزُلال لِمَنْ يَظْما
The gallant prince’s words, within the folds of his verse,
The words of the prince lament in the curve of his poem
take the place of clear, sweet water for whoever thirsts.
Replacing cool water for the thirsty one
فنرويso our thirst is quenched إذاwhen نَرويwe recite بدائعَwonders of نَظمِهِhis verse
فنروي إذا نَروي بدائعَ نَظمِهِ
ونَظْماand we thirst إذاif لمnot نَروِwe recite يَوماًfor a day لهُof his نَظْماverse
ونَظْما إذا لم نَروِ يَوماً لهُ نَظْما
So our thirst is quenched when we recite the wonders of his verse,
So we quench our thirst when we recite the masterpieces of his poem
and we thirst if, for a day, we recite no verse of his.
And poetry when we do not recite his poetry one day
