صدفَ الحَبيبُ بوصَلِه

صدفَ الحَبيبُ بوصَلِه

فجفا رُقادي إذْ صدَفْ

The beloved turned away, taking his love with him.

The beloved's intimacy arrived,

So my sleep deserted me when he turned away.

So my slumber dried up when he drew near,

ونثَرتُ لؤلؤَ أَدْمُعٍ

ونثَرتُ لؤلؤَ أَدْمُعٍ

أضحى لَها جَفني صَدَفْ

أضحى لَها جَفني صَدَفْ

And I scattered pearls of tears;

And I shed pearls of tears-

My eyelid became their shell.

My eyelids became for them two shells.
