بِلاwithout عِلَّةٍa cause مِنَّيfrom me عَرَفْتُI knew ولاnor سَبَبْa reason
بِلا عِلَّةٍ مِنَّي عَرَفْتُ ولا سَبَبْ
O you who sever the bond between me and him,
O you who severed the bond between me and him
With no cause on my part that I knew of, nor any reason;
Without cause from me, as I knew, or reason,
وياand O ناقِضاًone who breaks عَهداًa covenant حسِبتُI thought بأَنَّهُthat it
ويا ناقِضاً عَهداً حسِبتُ بأَنَّهُ

مُمِرُّ على مَرِّ الدَّوائرِ والحِقَبْ
And O you who break a covenant I thought
And O you who broke a pact I thought would be
Would remain firmly bound through the passing of fortune's reversals and ages.
Passing, like the orbits of days and epochs!

Would you be beguiled by time? Indeed, it is
Do you think you can be deluded by fate?
Restive, and in its days there is hardship for a young man.
It is treacherous; in its days are woes for the youth.
