طُنْ من صُروفِ لياليها على حَذَرِ
O you who boast of this world and its glitter,
O you who boast of this world and its splendor
Be on your guard against the vicissitudes of its nights.
Beware the turns of its nights in their caprice
ولاand do not يَغُرُّكَdeceive you عَيشٌa life إنif صَفاbecame serene وعَفاand grew abundant

فالَمرءُ من غَرَرِ الأيّامِ في غَرَرِ
And let no life deceive you, even if it is serene and abundant;
Let not an easy life deceive you should it be pure and spare
For man is in peril from the deceits of the days.
For man is ever amid the world's guiles in guile

مُقَسَّمُ الأمرِ بين الصَّفْوِ والكَدَرِ
Indeed, time—as you have experienced its nature—
Time is, as you have seen, of a nature
Is divided in its affairs between clarity and murk.
Divided between joy and misery
