وزارة بُسْتٍ وَهْيَ سُخْنَةُ عَيْنِ
O scribes of Bust, how fiercely you fight one another over
O writers, why do you squabble over
the vizierate of Bust, though it brings burning sorrow to the eye!
The ministry of mere dust, while it's still fresh?
فخُفُّfor the boot حُنَيْنٍof Hunayn فوقَbetter than ماwhat تَطلبونَهُyou seek it
فخُفُّ حُنَيْنٍ فوقَ ما تَطلبونَهُ
فلِمْso why بينَكمْamong you فيover ذاكَthat حَربُthe battle حُنَيْنِof Hunayn
فلِمْ بينَكمْ في ذاكَ حَربُ حُنَيْنِ
For Hunayn's boot is better than what you seek;
Hush the yearning above what you seek,
so why is there a Battle of Hunayn among you over that?
Why between you is there war of yearning over that?
