Meeting most of those who meet you brings burdens of sin.

So do not care whether they turn away from you or visit.

When they come to you, they have needs for you to meet.

So if they fulfill them, they withdraw from you or fly away.

Their traits—so shrink from them—or disgrace [the Arabic wording is unclear].

And closeness to them is a sin for the heart, or a disgrace.

Or what is harmful in their deeds infects whoever keeps their company.

So let them not see you, for they have long harmed those they saw.
