Listen: convey a piece of advice from me to the sultan,
Should I not convey sincere advice to the Sultan
accompanied by affection and seasoned judgment:
Accompanied by affection and prudent counsel?
تجاوَزْتَyou have surpassed أوجَthe zenith الشَّمسِthe sun عِّزاًin glory ورِفْعَةًand elevation
تجاوَزْتَ أوجَ الشَّمسِ عِّزاً ورِفْعَةً
وذَلَّلْتَand you subdued قَسْراًforcibly كُلَّall مَنْwho تملَّكواhave ruled
وذَلَّلْتَ قَسْراً كُلَّ مَنْ تملَّكوا
You have surpassed the sun's zenith in glory and elevation,
You have surpassed the zenith of the sun in glory and sublimity
and forcibly subdued all who have ruled.
And subjugated all those who were sovereigns
فماwhy then حَرَكاتٌmovements مُتعِباتٌexhausting تُديُمهاyou keep them up
فما حَرَكاتٌ مُتعِباتٌ تُديُمها
تَأَنَّbe unhurried فأوْجُfor the zenith الشَّمسِthe sun لاdoes not يتحرَّكُmove
تَأَنَّ فأوْجُ الشَّمسِ لا يتحرَّكُ
Why, then, keep up these exhausting movements?
Yet why persist in wearying undertakings
Be unhurried, for the sun's zenith does not move.
When the zenith of the sun does not shift?
