أُعلِّلُI soothe بالمُنىwith hopes نَسيmyself (likely intended: نفسي) لَعَلِّيperhaps I
أُعلِّلُ بالمُنى نَسي لَعَلِّي
أُخَفِّفُI ease وَقْدَthe burning نارِof the fire الشَّوقِof longing عَنِّيfrom me
أُخَفِّفُ وَقْدَ نارِ الشَّوقِ عَنِّي
I soothe myself with hopes, that perhaps I may
I make excuses with hope that I may forget
Ease the blaze of longing’s fire for myself.
I try to alleviate the burning fire of longing within me
وأعلَمُand I know أنَّthat وصلَكَunion with you لاnot يُرَجّىis hoped for
وأعلَمُ أنَّ وصلَكَ لا يُرَجّى
ولكِتْand yet (likely intended: ولكن) لاno أقَلِّless مِنَthan التَّمنيِّwishing
ولكِتْ لا أقَلِّ مِنَ التَّمنيِّ
And I know that union with you is not to be hoped for,
I know that being with you is not to be hoped for
Yet at least I can wish.
Yet I cannot stop wishing
