I passed a night like the beloved’s temple-locks,

I passed a night like the cheeks of a lover

with roses like his cheeks and a goblet of wine.

وأنجمُه تبدو كأعشارِ عَسْجَدٍ

وأنجمُه تبدو كأعشارِ عَسْجَدٍ

تضمَّنَها في الجَوِّ جامِعُ قار

تضمَّنَها في الجَوِّ جامِعُ قار

And its stars appear like fragments of gold,

Its stars appeared as the locks of a gazelle

enclosed in the sky by a mass of pitch.

Embraced by the expanse of the firmament
