أرِقتُI lay sleepless حتَّىuntil حَسِبْتُI thought عَينيmy eye
قدindeed خُلِقَتْwas created ليfor me بِلاwithout جُفونِeyelids
I lay sleepless until I thought my eye
I stayed awake until I thought
had been created for me without eyelids.
My eyes were created without eyelids
وفاضَand overflowed فيupon الخَدِّthe cheek ماءُwater عَينيmy eye
فخِلتُهُso I thought it فاضَhad gushed منfrom عُيونِsprings
And the water of my eye overflowed upon my cheek,
And my eyes overflowed with tears
so I thought it had gushed from springs.
So I left them overflowing from the springs
وذاكَand that أنَّbecause الزَّمانَtime أفضىled
بيme منfrom سُهولٍplains إلىto حُزونِrugged ground
And that was because time had led
That's because time led me
me from plains to rugged ground,
From plains to sorrow
وسامنيand imposed on me البُعدَseparation عنfrom أُناسٍpeople
هُمْthey فارَقونيthey parted from me فأرَّقونيso they made me sleepless
and imposed on me separation from people
And distance from people pained me
who parted from me and so made me sleepless.
They left me so they made me sleepless
