لقد هُنْتُ من طُولِ المقامِ ومَنْ يُقِمْ

لقد هُنْتُ من طُولِ المقامِ ومَنْ يُقِمْ

طويلاً يهُنْ مِنَ بَعدِ ما كانَ مُكرَما

طويلاً يهُنْ مِنَ بَعدِ ما كانَ مُكرَما

I have indeed lost esteem through a long stay; and whoever remains

I have grown weary from my long stay, and he who stays

for a long time loses esteem after once being honored.

Long will grow weak after once being honored.

وطولُ جمامِ الماءِ في مُستَقَرِّهِ

وطولُ جمامِ الماءِ في مُستَقَرِّهِ

يُغَيِّرُهُ لَوناً ورِيحاً ومَطْعَما

يُغَيِّرُهُ لَوناً ورِيحاً ومَطْعَما

And water's prolonged stillness in its resting place

And water left too long in its pitcher

changes its color, smell, and taste.

Will change in color, scent and taste.
