أخٌa brother كانَwas ليto me وهوand he الحليفُthe ally المساعدُthe helper
تنكّرَhe turned unfriendly فهوso he is اليومَtoday ضدٌّan adversary مُباعِدُkeeping his distance
I had a brother who was a helpful ally.
A brother who was my ally and helper
He turned against me; today he is a foe who keeps his distance.
Has changed, so today he is opposed and distant
رأىhe saw جدهhis fortune فيin ذروةِthe summit of المجدِglory صاعداًrising
فأطغاهُso it made him overbearing جَدٌّfortune فوقَabove جَديmy fortune صاعِدُrising
He saw his fortune rising to the summit of glory.
He saw his grandfather at the peak of glory ascending
So a fortune rising above mine made him overbearing.
So he was blinded by a grandfather above my ascending grandfather
وكانand he was يرانيseeing me قاعِداًseated وهوwhile he قائمٌstanding
فصارso he came to يرانيsee me قائماًstanding وهوwhile he قاعِدُseated
And he used to see me seated while he stood.
And he used to see me sitting while he was standing
Now he sees me standing while he sits.
So he has become seeing me standing while he is sitting
فأحدثَso he developed زهواًarrogance لاnot يُناديis called وليدُهُits child
وأضحىand became وعيداًa threat منهfrom him تلكthose المواعِدُpromises
So he developed a fearsome pride, whose child goes uncalled.
So he has developed an arrogance where he doesn't call his newborn
And those promises of his became threats.
And those promises of his have become threats
